One night in the early days of summer, we hopped on our bikes and went a few blocks down the road to Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn to shoot some lightpainting shots with our Holga(s). Working with film and lightpainting is interesting because you can’t see your results right away, so you really have to give in to the chaos. With that in mind, we didn’t try and make any specific images, we just grabbed a few lights and let loose, hoping to come up with something cool.
Yesterday we picked up the results, and they are pretty great. For one, you can see the duct tape inside my Holga (the thing is about 1000 years old and barely still together) which gives an interesting effect, and we really let the photos get blown out, which I think is extremely attractive in an abstract sense. After these shots, and after getting bit by every bug in Brooklyn, we headed home to start the agonizing process of going to the lomo store, paying for developing, and then waiting. Remember when you had to do that all the time?
Don’t take digital for granted folks. Go analog once-in-awhile and take your time. I know we will. Check out three photos here, and the rest on the MRI Flickr.
